Vocal and instrument recording
Two iso booths, a live room of about 42 m² and an engineer who stays with you take by take — no rush, room to try ideas.

At Claviforge in Amsterdam Noord, recording starts with listening before you hit record. Whether you need a chorus nailed, harmonies stacked or a dry acoustic guitar capture, we block time for mic choice, headphone balance and a pace that suits your voice or instrument. Since 2019 we have worked from Danzigerkade 78 with 18 microphones and a 32-channel desk.
Vocal and instrument recording is for solo artists, bands adding vocals or acoustics after rehearsal, rappers, spoken-word layers and songwriters who want a clean demo. Bring a finished instrumental, stems from your home setup or only lyrics and chords — we shape the session around your starting point. See our vocal prep guide for practical tips before you travel.
How it works
Brief
Send backing tracks, tempo, key and references. We load the session and book the right booth or live room.
Setup
Mic comparison, pop filter, headphone mix and gain staging. Allow fifteen to thirty minutes before timed recording starts.
Record
Full passes first, then targeted sections. We flag favourites as we go so you stay focused on performance.
Handover
Comping where agreed, WAV exports, short listen-back in the control room. Archiving follows our retention rules.
Booths and live room
The studio has 3 rooms including 2 iso vocal booths and a live room of roughly 42 m². Booths stay dry enough for tight vocals and speech; the live room gives acoustic guitars, strings and small ensembles air without needing a concert hall.
Up to 6 people fit comfortably during a session: artist in booth or live room, engineer in the control room, maybe a producer or friends in the lounge. Larger groups need a custom schedule — ask via contact.
Mics and signal path
We draw from 18 microphones — condensers for detail, dynamics for loud rock or rap, ribbons when you want softer highs. Instruments get their own path: DI for bass, stereo pairs for piano or acoustic, close and room mics when the arrangement needs them.
Everything routes through our 32-channel console to 24-bit capture. You hear yourself clearly in headphones; we add reverb or delay in the monitor, not on the printed take unless you choose that on purpose.
Who books this service
Indie singers finishing a single, hip-hop artists tracking doubles, podcast hosts adding one sung hook, bands that rehearsed in our rehearsal room and only lack vocals — the use cases differ but each block focuses on one source at a time. We do not track full electric band backlines at stage volume; the live room suits controlled amps, not half-stack gigs.
Guests from age 16 need written guardian consent and an adult present. Younger artists: contact us first through contact.
What to bring
- Instrumental or multitrack export (WAV/AIFF), without heavy limiting on the guide.
- Lyrics, structure and a tempo map if you have one.
- Two reference tracks whose vocal or guitar tone you like.
- Your own IEMs or headphones if the connector fits.
- Water and a light snack; skip ice-cold drinks right before takes.
Getting here: From Amsterdam Centraal, take metro line 52 (North/South) towards Noord and get off at Noorderpark. Walk about 8 minutes west along Danzigerkade; the studio is at number 78 on the waterfront. By bike from Centraal it is roughly 15 minutes via the IJ Tunnel. Hours: Tuesday–Friday 10:00–20:00, Saturday 11:00–18:00. Closed Sunday and Monday.. Questions: 020 244 1836 or [email protected].
Session flow and feedback
Engineers offer feedback on pitch, timing and diction when you want it — direct, never patronising. Prefer hands-off support? Say so at the start. For backing vocals we use separate tracks per harmony with clear names so mixing later stays organised.
Breaks are part of the plan. A tired voice gives fewer options; we reorder sections (verses before choruses) rather than pushing through. Pitch correction only on request and as subtle finishing, not as a default sound.
Book via contact with your date and a short project note. We confirm within 2 business days and send a quote for hourly, half-day or full-day rates. On the day, meet us at Danzigerkade 78; the engineer welcomes you in the lounge.
Delivery and formats
Default delivery is 24-bit WAV at 48 kHz, aligned from the song start. Other sample rates are fine when your project requires them. You receive a download link or copy to your drive; we do not ship physical media.
Session files stay 24 months after the last activity, then we delete them per our privacy policy. Keep your own backup. A rough monitor mix for home listening is optional; it is not a substitute for professional mixing.

FAQ
How long for one song?
A three- to four-minute pop single with chorus and a few doubles often needs three to five hours. A half day is enough for many artists when lyrics are ready.
Can I record instruments and vocals same day?
Yes if the schedule is realistic. We alternate acoustics in the live room with vocals in a booth; loud electric rigs may not fit every slot.
Do you deliver a mixed demo?
A quick monitor mix for feedback is possible. Release-ready balance is mixing, priced per track or hour.
What if I am ill on the day?
Tell us as early as you can. More than 7 days out we reschedule without charge; closer dates follow terms and conditions.
May I bring a producer?
One or two guests in the control room is normal. Larger groups distract — mention it when requesting a quote.
